Our Story
Sam, Ben, and Jim are 3 high school basketball referees who have been on the road. With over 18 seasons, the guys have seen it all. The people, the kids, the towns, the fans, and especially each other. The guys will bring you the highs and lows of reffing and hopefully entertain and make you laugh.

Sam Anker
Sam Anker is a dedicated individual with a decade of experience officiating basketball. Graduating from ISU in 2010, Sam’s journey began as a football player for the university, showcasing his passion for sports. Alongside his supportive wife Missy and their three boys, Sam finds joy in coaching and enthusiastically watching his children participate in youth sports. Beyond the court, Sam is an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Iowa State Cyclones.

Ben Applegate
Bill Blank is a seasoned stand-up comedian from Des Moines, Iowa, with over two decades of experience making audiences laugh across the country. Known for his razor-sharp wit and fearless approach to everyday frustrations, Bill brings a uniquely Midwest voice to comedy—relatable, bold, and unapologetically real.
From the Des Moines Funny Bone to clubs, festivals, and corporate events nationwide, Bill has earned a reputation for being both hilarious and versatile. His material ranges from clean and clever to edgier observations on culture, politics, and human behavior—always delivered with intelligence and authenticity. He’s been featured on Spike TV, had material published in Sports Illustrated, and performed alongside some of the biggest names in comedy.
Whether he’s working a corporate crowd, headlining a comedy club, or roasting life’s absurdities with a cold beer in hand, Bill Blank commands the stage with confidence, grit, and just the right amount of attitude.
With a sharp tongue, a big heart, and a voice that cuts through the noise, Bill isn’t just telling jokes—he’s telling the truth, one laugh at a time.

Jim Crozier
Jim Crozier has been a High School Basketball Official for 27 years. He currently works as a school teacher and the Athletic Director at Melcher-Dallas Community Schools. He is married to his wife Lisa, and they have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. In his free time he loves to watch sporting events, travel and spent time with family and friends.
