Joe Knapp

Joe Knapp is a lifelong collector and entrepreneur based in Des Moines, Iowa, best known as the owner of Jay’s CD & Hobby, one of the Midwest’s premier destinations for pop culture, collectibles, and sports cards. What began as a single shop has grown into a thriving multi-location business, with stores in Ankeny, West Des Moines, and on the south side of Des Moines. Under Joe’s leadership, Jay’s CD & Hobby has become a local institution—serving up everything from vintage vinyl and retro video games to action figures, Funko Pops, comics, and trading cards.

Joe is also the founder and face of Hat Trick Breaks, a high-energy live-streaming brand that specializes in sports card box breaks. Through Hat Trick Breaks, Joe has built a loyal national community of collectors who tune in daily to watch him pull rare hits, give away wax packs, and connect fans through their shared love of the hobby. Known for his passion, humor, and ability to turn every break into an event, Joe has positioned Hat Trick Breaks as a go-to source for serious collectors and curious newcomers alike.

In addition to running both businesses, Joe plays a key role in the regional collector scene—sponsoring shows, organizing signings with athletes and personalities, and consistently giving back to the community through donations, prizes, and charity tie-ins.

Whether you're hunting for a hard-to-find card or just looking to relive a little nostalgia, Joe Knapp has likely built the space for it—and probably pulled something cool on camera while doing it.
